Catalyst team rider Rich Payne is rad. He's mellow, always seemingly on cruise control, but won't hesitate to dole out a ration of shit to our skate team groms when it's needed. He also leads by example, with stuff like this filthy little crail disaster in the bowl at Eastwood. (click pick for a larger view!)

We've been making some changes lately to the back half of the shop. Here's a shot of sketchy looking Catalyst Team rider Austin Bowlby (aka Powers, aka Rob Frosty) earning his keep.

We just received another shipment of Xcel Infiniti 3/2 fullsuits as well as the Infiniti 3mm split-toe boots. The water is still down in the high 50's, so cruise by and pick up a new suit, some boots, or both and stay nice and toasty!

Well, sorta. Being the on-point crew we are here at Catalyst, we like to check the surf at least a hundread times a day. We've found that the sebastianinletcam.com site provides one of the best insights into what the conditions are like down at the inlet, with multiple camera views, along with current wind speed and direction.
Well, one of the things we've noticed lately is that there seems to be a whole hell of a lot of sand down at the inlet. Check out these two photos taken from the panaorama looking north and east, the first from August 30th 2009, and the second from today (January 16 2010).
As there is ALWAYS a ton of discussion as to what should be done regarding beach renourishment here in Brevard County, we propose that maybe the extra sand at the inlet could be utilized since it IS the actual beach as opposed to junk sand from inland or muddy offshore garbage.
***Realistically, the extra sand at the inlet wouldn't put more than a small dent in the erosion up north, but it still is pretty cool to see how much the beach changes there throughout the year.

For a funny/cynical take on popular surf culture, check out Nugable.com. Here's a sample of one of their current postings:
The Surfing Prophecies for 2010 are as follows:
-Dane Reynolds will win his first WCT event in 2010 and finish in the
top 5 in the final rankings. It might be at the Gold Coast or Bells,
but it will most likely be at Trestles. He will also write a book
titled “Playing the ASP Drunk Like a Percussion Instrument Until the
Fingers Begin to Bleed a Bit.”

Caught this little gem in the Pipe Masters coverage on LostEnterprises.com today:
"...Since everyone now bashes the ASP and wants to
create a new tour we've decided to jump on the band wagon and create
our own tour. We're calling it the "The Real Rebel Tour". Here's the
schedule: Snapper, Teahupoo, Trestles and Pipe. Everything else is just
a waste of time. Here are the rules: Chris Ward never surfs in the
first heat, Sunny's heat starts when Sunny shows up, Fanning has to run
a mile and do 100 push-up before his heats, Dane can only ride fish,
Gorkin's Snapper and Trestles results count as double, Davo has to ride
a borrowed board with no leash, there is no interference rule in Mason
Ho's heats and Kelly Slater is banned from competing. The judging panel
will consist of Chicken Willey, Randall, Vince and Simmons. Event
coverage will be provided by the ...Lost youtube account 5 days after
the contest has finished. And since we'll be paying for the new tour
out of our own pocket, 1st place will get a 20% discount at Catalyst
and $25 dollars off their next ...Lost Surfboard."
