Hurricane Earl Hype Machine 4
Well, we finally have the classic hurricane swell conditions this morning. Swell from Earl is currently coming through in the head high range with the occasional bigger set as of 10:45am. Look for the swell to continue to decline in size throughout today and into tomorrow morning, with leftovers for tomorrow morning’s low tide in the 2 to 3 foot range.
An interesting thing to note is that a few of the swell models are showing a bit of a SE pulse for tomorrow afternoon and Sunday morning from Tropical Storm Fiona. This does match up with the fact that there is some swell on the NE Bahamas buoy from the E/SE, so we’re really just going to have to wait and see if it makes it up and around for us.
In the longer term, it looks like we are going to have some small 2 to 3 foot wind swell coming up for the first half of next week, and then another potential swell towards next weekend. Stay tuned…

Hurricane Early Hype Machine 3
Hurricane Earl is now a powerful category 4 storm, with sustained winds of 135 mph and gusts up to 160 mph. He is currently moving W/NW at 12 mph, and on his current forecast track will move into our swell window sometime tonight or early tomorrow morning.
As of right now, we can expect to see forerunners to Earl’s swell sometime tomorrow afternoon, but again, the brunt of this swell we be felt all day Thursday. Wave heights for Earl on Thursday are looking to be in the 8 to 10 foot (face height) range during the peak of the swell. Friday morning we can still expect waves in the 6 foot range, with heights declining throughout the day. Friday, particularly in the morning, is still looking to be the cleanest with offshore winds for most of the day, with Saturday having leftovers in the waist high zone.
The wind forecast is holding steady, with winds backing off on Thursday down into the 5-10 mph range out of the N and then NW by the evening time. Friday is still looking to be offshore all day, with winds from the SW to W in the 5-10 mph range.

Hurricane Earl Hype Machine 2
It’s the start of a new week and time to look forward to our next incoming swell courtesy of Hurricane Earl.
Currently, we can expect to see a continued flow of E/NE wind swell with a little ground swell mixed through Wednesday in the chest to head high range.
As for Earl, the forecast track is bringing it up between Bermuda and the East Coast, passing about 200 to 300 miles off of Cape Hatteras. On this current path, it looks like we should start seeing swell from Earl sometime Wednesday afternoon, with the brunt of the swell arriving Thursday, then subsiding through the day Friday. Wave heights from Earl are looking to be up in the 8 to 10 foot (face height) range on Thursday during the peak period of the swell
The most important thing for us, as always, will be the winds. Right now it’s looking like Wednesday is still going to be up in the 15+ mph range out of the NE, so much of early swell from Earl will probably be masked by the same wind swell that we are seeing today. As we move into Thursday and Earl passes closer, we will see the winds shift to more of a N and then possibly NW direction while simultaneously beginning to subside down to the 5-10 mph range. Friday is still looking to be offshore from the SW to W at 5-10 mph, providing the cleanest conditions of the entire week.
As always, this forecast has some room to change depending on Earl’s storm track and speed of movement, so be proactive and keep on eye on those winds.

Hurricane Earl Hype Machine 1
Hopefully you were able to make it out into the lineup at some point yesterday, because that was the best surf conditions-wise that we will see from Hurricane Danielle. Expect the wind from now though Wednesday to remain E/NE in the 15 to 20 mph range, which will ad a considerable amount of wind swell to what ground swell remains from Danielle. Surf heights should remain in the head high range through Wednesday and into Thursday as we begin to see swell from Hurricane Earl fill in.
The good new about Earl is that as it approaches on Thursday, out local winds should actually begin to die down into the 5-10 range from the N/NE and begin to rotate around to offshore for most of the day Friday and Saturday. Swell from Earl should begin to hit Thursday and be well overhead throughout the day, then start subsiding through Friday, and be gone by Saturday during the day.
There is a chance that the next tropical wave, 97L, could become hurricane Fiona and follow Earl into the weekend, but as of yet its still quite a ways out to make a call.

Hurricane Danielle Hype Machine 4
Hurricane Danielle is currently a Cat 4 and spewing swell out everywhere. We are still on track to see the first significant swell from her by sunrise tomorrow morning, but really won’t start receiving the brunt until around mid-day. The coming week is still lining up to have fairly solid surf every day, but again, Sunday through Wednesday/Thursday are looking quite windy with winds from the E/NE in the 10 to 15 to 20 mph range. Look for a considerable drop in wind speeds sometime Thursday, with a combo swell from the NE and SE in the water at that time.

Hurricane Danielle Hype Machine 3
As of right now, Hurricane Danielle is still on track to give us a good shot of swell beginning Saturday and lasting for several days. Her current predicted path has shifted to the east a bit, helping to give us a little reprieve from some of the strongest onshore winds that were being forecast for the last few days. This will also factor somewhat into the size of the swell that we receive, but I would still expect to see waves easily into the head high + range by Saturday evening.
Long range is still looking good for next week. This will be extremely dependent on the track of now tropical storm Earl as it is still quite a ways out. We are still looking at the potential for a day or two near mid week of solid combo swell, but as always things could change. Stay tuned…
